The Sacred Significance
The puja begins with a Gotra and Name Sankalp, through which the prayers and offerings are dedicated to the devotee’s Pitras. During Shraddha Pujan, prayers are offered with श्रद्धा and gratitude for departed family members. Til Tarpan is then performed using sesame and sacred water as a traditional offering for Pitru Shanti and remembrance of the ancestors.
An important part of this seva is Brahmin Bhojan, in which food is respectfully offered to Brahmins as part of the traditional Shraddha observance. In Hindu tradition, such seva is performed with the intention of honouring the Pitras and seeking their satisfaction and blessings.
This daily Pitru Seva is suitable for devotees who wish to regularly remember their ancestors, seek Pitru Shanti, ancestral blessings, family harmony and relief from Pitru-related obstacles. Performing these rituals at the sacred Gaya Ji Tirth Kshetra, renowned for ancestral worship, further enhances the devotional significance of the puja.
History of the Temple
The spiritual importance of Gaya Ji is closely associated with Lord Vishnu and the revered Shri Vishnupad Temple, which is traditionally believed to contain the sacred footprint of Lord Vishnu. This divine association makes Gaya Ji particularly significant for devotees who wish to combine ancestral worship with prayers for the grace of Lord Vishnu.
The sacred Phalgu River is also deeply connected with the traditional Pitru rituals performed in Gaya Ji. Shraddha, Tarpan and other ancestral offerings are performed in this Tirth Kshetra with श्रद्धा and devotion, symbolising gratitude towards one’s forefathers and the fulfilment of ancestral duties.
Gaya Ji has therefore become one of the foremost spiritual destinations for devotees seeking Pitru Shanti, Pitru Dosh Shanti and ancestral blessings. Rituals such as Shraddha Pujan, Til Tarpan and Brahmin Bhojan carry special devotional significance here because of the region’s longstanding association with Pitru worship.
Devotees performing Pitru Seva at Gaya Ji traditionally pray not only for the peace and satisfaction of departed ancestors, but also for family harmony, protection, prosperity, stability and the welfare of future generations. This makes Gaya Ji Tirth Kshetra especially appropriate for a daily ancestral seva dedicated to remembering and honouring the Pitras.
